Travel Guide: La Jolla, CA

The west coast swing on the PGA Tour is truly something special! I look forward to the many things this area of the country, especially La Jolla, CA, has to offer. The spectacular views, stunning coastline, and delicious food in La Jolla and nearby Del Mar Beach are unbeatable.

For breakfast:

The Cottage

This cozy corner café serves some of the best breakfast I have ever eaten. For the ultimate experience, sit outside on the patio under a canopy of colorful umbrellas. Typically when dining out for breakfast I order an omelet or something similar, but when looking at the menu at The Cottage, the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with grilled blueberries immediately caught my eye. And let me add: they are phenomenal! (I still daydream about them!) The Cottage also serves lunch and dinner. I have only visited for breakfast, but I am dying to try their other menus!

For a quick bite:

The Taco Stand

The Taco Stand is a fresh, authentic taqueria located in the heart of La Jolla. Do not miss these delicious tacos wrapped in handmade corn tortillas. We loved this restaurant so much that we made a repeat visit two nights later. I highly recommend the grilled fish and grilled shrimp tacos!

Board & Brew

Frequented by locals, this surf-themed sandwich shop was one of my favorite finds on my last visit to San Diego. Fresh bread and ingredients are delivered daily and the sandwich masterpieces are created. Healthy ingredients, a laid-back atmosphere, a location on the main street of the beach town of Del Mar have made Board & Brew a local and tourist favorite.

For a delicious dinner:

George’s at the Cove

George’s is an amazing restaurant with stunning views of La Jolla Cove. Dining in the evening to catch a breathtaking La Jolla sunset is my recommendation. The hummus, stuffed dates, fish tacos, and grilled Faroe Island salmon are outstanding and items I would definitely order again. Reserve a table on the Ocean Terrace at sunset for one of the best rooftop dining experiences ever!

Things to Do:

Visit the famous Torrey Pines Championship Golf Courses, home of the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open. Torrey Pines is a widely recognizable and easily accessible public golf facility. Spending time with so many people that love golf, I have always heard wonderful things about the prestigious Torrey Pines. Finally having the opportunity to visit did not disappoint!

Visit the seals and sea lions. There are many places to see the sea lions around La Jolla Cove, but I recommend visiting the Children’s Pool. The views are beautiful and the sea lions’ antics are hilarious!

Spend time in the picturesque beach town of Del Mar where sandy beaches meet coastal bluffs with plenty of dining and shopping nearby. Whether you are looking to take a leisurely stroll on the beach or get your cardio on next to the crashing waves, Del Mar is the perfect place to do so! Park near Seagrove Park and Powerhouse Park to find beachside trails and coastal views!

Visit the Torrey Pines State Reserve and Beach for breathtaking views, gorgeous hikes, or peaceful walks on the beach.

Visit the Torrey Pines Gliderport. Watch experienced paragliders and hang gliders fly over the cliffs of Torrey Pines. They are visible from hole number three on the Torrey Pines South Course and what a sight to see! For the thrill-seekers, flights in tandem with certified, professional instructors are available at Torrey Pines Gliderport, the largest global tandem operation.
