After a few weeks at home, we’re about to hit the ground running for the fall season of the PGA Tour! Here are a few tips I live by when trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle while traveling!
Pack Snacks
I’ve said it before, but packing snacks is so helpful when trying to stay healthy while traveling! To see some of my favorite snacks that I bring along, visit my Snack Spotlight page!
Staying in a hotel room? No problem! Most rooms have a mini fridge (if not, try asking for one). I keep things like Siggi’s yogurt, berries, Hope hummus, and carrots in the fridge. Top Siggi’s with berries and granola (Julie’s Real is my favorite) and just like that, you have a quick and healthy breakfast or snack!
Exercise
Walk- Walking is the best way to explore a new city and an easy way to get your steps in!
Take a Class – Nothing makes me happier than finding a workout studio in the area I am visiting and trying one of their classes! Pilates, Cycle, Yoga, Barre, Kickboxing: there are so many great choices these days! These are some of my favorite workouts on the road! I use the MINDBODY app to learn more about local studios and the classes they offer. If I like what I see and it fits my schedule, I use the app to book a class!
There are so many minimal equipment and no equipment workouts available online or on social media so there’s no excuse not to get up and move! I’m loving the Tone It Up Daily Workouts right now! For other ideas see my blog post on Workout Resources for Travel!
Bedtime Routine
Sleep is so important for your overall wellness. If you have a bedtime ritual at home, try your best to recreate it no matter where you are! I always sleep to the sound of ocean waves, using a sound machine at home and the White Noise app (it’s free!) on the road! Whether your routine includes drinking a glass of herbal tea or diffusing essential oils, bring those things along in order to maintain your routine to ensure the best sleep possible, even when you’re somewhere unfamiliar!
Hydrate
We hear it all the time, but drinking water is a vital part of a wellness routine. Bring along a reusable water bottle and drink up! I love my SIC bottle and my Swell bottle and and seriously never leave home without them!
Indulge (in moderation)
It’s not a crime to indulge every now and then! Order the pasta dish, the specialty cocktail, or the signature pastry from the famous local bakery in the city you are visiting! Enjoy it and don’t feel guilty about it! Be gracious with yourself. I am a big believer in balance and a healthy relationship with food!
Not all travel is vacation so it is important to keep a schedule, routine, and normalcy to diet and exercise! I hope you find these tips helpful next time you hit the road!
Always finding joy,
Francie
