ButcherBox has been on my radar for several years now! Smylie and I have even given it as a gift to a good friend (it’s a great gift for anyone that enjoys cooking or any grill enthusiasts you know)! I didn’t fully appreciate the convenience and luxury of having high-quality meats in the freezer until last year during quarantine. A local meat supplier that typically sells to Birmingham restaurants began offering curbside pickup of cuts of meat. Now that restaurants are back open, they have limited that service and ButcherBox came to the rescue! It is so nice to have the freezer stocked with high-quality, great-tasting protein sources – especially when returning home from travel. How does it work?
1. Choose your box
Choose between custom and curated box options based on your preferences/the number of people in your family.
Custom Boxes: Select your own cuts and have the option to switch it up every order! This is a great option to include speciality cuts that you may have a hard time finding at local stores. Cut Options: choose your own cuts from a variety of Beef, Pork, Chicken, and Seafood
Curated Boxes: Let ButcherBox surprise you with the cuts! Cut Options: choose from the following pre-selected mixes: Beef/Pork/Chicken, Beef/Pork, Beef/Chicken, or All Beef
2. Choose Box Size
Classic or Big Box
Classic: Good for individuals and small families
Big box: Good for mid-size families and large freezers
There is also an option for shipping frequency. The default option is 4 weeks but it allows you to change it to every 6 or 8 weeks.

I selected the Beef/Pork/Chicken curated box option and our first box came with chicken tenders, ground beef, strip loin steaks, ribeye steaks, beef sirloin tips, pork spareribs and bacon. I like the surprise element and the fact that I’ll most likely receive a cut of meat that I might not choose myself – encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone and try a new recipe!
I really appreciate how the meat is portioned – for example the 3lbs of chicken tenders I received are separated into 3 packs and the ground beef is portioned in 1 lb packs, which makes it easy to only defrost what you need.

What else do I need to know?
- Members can pause, cancel, or edit their ship date at any time before the next order is billed via their individual account page. You can expect no hidden fees, penalties, or delays!
- All members have the option to choose from a variety of add-ons for an additional cost.
- All members have access to member deals! These deals change frequently.
- All members can select the frequency of shipment. Once you’re a member, you can choose to receive the box every 2, 4, 6, or 8 weeks.
- ButcherBox securely packages and ships straight to the consumer’s door and shipping is always free!
- Upon arrival, the meat is always frozen or cold to the touch and safe to eat (below 40° F).
Can I give ButcherBox as a gift?
They offer one-time gift box options! If you prefer to give a one-time custom box, sign up for membership (free of charge) and then cancel the membership before the next billing cycle. Gift certificates are also available.
