Anna Carter’s Nursery

Anna Carter’s nursery has become one of my favorite rooms in our house and I’m excited to share the details!

I have always loved the color pink and Anna Carter’s closet is FILLED with lots of pink, but for the nursery I wanted pink to simply be an accent color. As soon as I began planning and dreaming about the nursery, I envisioned a very soft and subtle light blue/green for the wall color. Choosing paint colors can be very hard and quite the process. After a mishap of color mixing/diluting by the paint store as we tried to achieve the perfect shade, we ended up having to paint the room twice. Before painting the room the second time, I enlisted the help of my friend and talented designer, Laurie Fulkerson, who helped me carefully select the perfect paint color – Glimmer by Sherwin Williams. It is the most beautiful color and we are so pleased!

As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I began saving photos on Instagram for inspiration and one nursery that I absolutely loved and kept going back to had a tailored crib skirt made from a fabulous fabric. I knew I wanted a colorful design and pattern for my crib skirt and I was able to find this gorgeous fabric by artist Alexis Walter!

I liked the classic style of this crib and really liked the price, too!

For drapery supplies, King Cotton in Birmingham was a MUST for finding fabric, trim, and hardware! They have a wonderful selection and the very best customer service! I fell in love with this soft pink grosgrain trim and decided to use it as an accent on both my crib skirt and window treatments. The ladies at King Cotton were SO helpful in assisting me as I selected the perfect fabric and hardware for my window treatments. I also used one of the very talented seamstresses at King Cotton to construct my curtains and crib skirt.

With the remaining remnants of my crib skirt fabric, I was able to have two different pillows made for the nursery! I sent some of the fabric to Little Design Co., who made a custom little lumbar pillow for the my glider. (I already have a beautiful bolster and pillows from Little Design Co. in our house!) I took the remaining fabric to B. Bayer in Birmingham, purchased a pillow from their shop, and had them create a monogram appliqué of Anna Carter’s initials out of the fabric and add it to the pillow. I am so pleased with how both turned out!

I chose to hang Garden Roses and Peonies fine art prints by Hannah Winters over the crib. Hannah is an extremely talented artist that is local to Birmingham, and I have always admired her work!

I really enjoy following @lechateauatl on Instagram and knew I wanted a special piece of furniture for my changing table in the nursery. I saw this gorgeous antique chest on their Instagram and had to see it in person! I made a quick trip to their warehouse in Atlanta and confirmed that it was the one! This is a piece that I intend to pass down to Anna Carter one day.

Nursery Dresser

Many families we know have used the rug we ultimately chose to use in our nursery, and for good reason! It has a soft underfoot and you can’t beat the price!

Choosing a glider was extremely important for us because we knew we would be spending a lot of time in it once Anna Carter arrived! We visited Pottery Barn and sat in several so that we had an idea of what we were looking for. Ultimately, we purchased our glider locally at Barnett Furniture in Trussville, AL and we are so pleased with our selection. We were able to select our fabric and the chair was ready for pickup 6 weeks later!

The iron baker’s rack is from my childhood bedroom. The shelves are filled with special items like silver cups (Anna Carter’s, mine, and my mom’s), my silver rattle, and figurines that were once in my nursery. The fine china plates above the baker’s rack are a few from a collection that my mom has been curating for me over the years.

Anna Carter’s nursery has such a soothing, calming feel and I will never forget walking Anna Carter in for the first time shortly after we arrived home from the hospital and feeling so pleased with the space we had created for her. I am excited to watch her grow and play in this sweet room!
