The Best Travel Snacks for Your Next Flight or Road Trip

My snack game is STRONG when I travel. I have learned that planning and packing healthy, nutrient dense snacks can go a long way in making a travel day more manageable and enjoyable! Quite often, I am asked by friends and followers for travel snack suggestions and product recommendations so I wanted to share what works well for me in hopes of giving you some ideas for your own travel snacking. For flights, I pack my snacks in a clear bag that can easily be removed from my carry-on when going through security so there is no confusion during screening. Any time a TSA agent has seen my snack bag they have made comments like “Wow, you must like to eat healthy” or “That’s an impressive snack bag”! The snacks I pack are not just for the travel day, but also to have on hand as healthy options during my stay at my final destination. I pack snacks that I know I love and ones that may not be readily available while traveling or for the duration of my trip.

While COVID-19 is still lingering, people are slowly beginning to travel again. Whether in the skies or on the highways, you may need to step up your snack game, too! Many airlines are limiting their in-flight food and beverage options and others have suspended service all together. In these crazy times, it’s best to plan ahead and be prepared!

Here are the snacks that almost always make the cut for my snack bag:

GoMacro Bars– I love so many of the flavors but Double Chocolate + Peanut Butter Chip, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, and Banana + Almond Butter are currently sitting at the top of my list!

Perfect BarsCoconut Peanut Butter is my favorite! You can find them in the refrigerated section of grocery stores, but they are ok out of the fridge for up to a week! I prefer to eat them cold so I either eat one as a grab-and-go breakfast before an early flight or I put them in the refrigerator when I reach my destination!

“Just a handful of” Almonds or Cashews from Trader Joe’s – Great for portion control and they also provide the perfect amount of nuts needed to make my favorite pesto recipe at home!

I usually like to have one type of savory, crunchy snack other than nuts. Simple Mills Almond Flour Crackers (I love the Sea Salt or Rosemary) or Crunchmaster Multi-Seed Crackers are two of my favorites. I like Crispbreads from Trader Joe’s too!

Liquid IV  – This is not a snack, but it is ALWAYS in my bag! It is so great for hydration, especially on days that include air travel. My favorite flavors are Lemon Lime, Tangerine and Passionfruit. Use code “FAIRWAYFINDS25”for 25% off +free shipping on their website!

Sometimes I’ll pack Epic Bars (Chicken + Sriracha is my favorite) or Chomps Jerky Sticks – I buy both of these at Trader Joe’s.

I keep all of my snacks organized with Stasher Bags! While at home, I use these bags for food storage. They are available in so many fun colors and several sizes. I typically pack bars, nuts, and nut butters in the half-gallon size and use the sandwich size exclusively for Liquid IV packets!

I also always have a refillable water bottle with me on travel days! I still love this one that helps me keep up with my water drinking goals.

When we arrive at our destination, the grocery store is usually one of my first stops. I always confirm that I have fridge access where we are staying before I make a grocery run. I buy perishables that I haven’t traveled with like fruits, veggies, hummus and greek yogurt!

*Here’s one of my favorite travel tips – If your hotel room does not have a mini fridge in it, it never hurts to inquire about availability! Some hotels will bring one to your room free of charge or for a small, daily fee. This is a game-changer when trying to keep up healthy habits while traveling!

I hope you have found these snack suggestions helpful! Safe travels and happy snacking!

Always finding joy,

Francie
